Veggies, Weeds, and Hummingbirds

I spend some time in the garden this morning, weeding and watering. There are loads of ivy sprouts and hardly shoots that look like asparagus from hell. The plot is up against an overgrown yard, so it is going to be a challenge keeping it in check. I had to let things grow for a while to determine what was a weed and what was a veggie. The red stemmed beets have sprouted with confidence and the wispy carrots have just started to show. The sunflowers have also come up a bit with broad flat leaves. My windowbox lettuces have sprouted along with just a hint of the chives. The rest of the herbs seem to be pretty happy - I'm going to have to have a mojito party to use the mint that is growing like crazy. I'll post some photos soon.

A couple of hummingbirds came to take a bath in the water I was showering on my veggies. They were really friendly, and were not startled by me at all. I'm happy to be providing habitat. I think they looked like this guy:
